On the first tee, Lang introduced his caddy, Tony Pilkington, a fellow alumnus from both Appleby College, the private school in Oakville, and the University of Toronto law school.

“The shit should be flying today,” said Danny to Michael as Lang teed up, not bothering to lower his voice.

Patrick Blais stepped forward to introduce himself, and Detective Alberts offered a friendly hello.

Northcott sauntered over as they waited for the group on the first fairway, which included the Murphy twins, to get out of range.

“I hope the marshals keep an eye on those two,” said Northcott. Michael wanted to say something about calling the kettle a sandbagger.

The first balls hit by Lang and Michael landed a few feet apart, two hundred and sixty yards down the fairway, eliciting polite applause from a gallery of about fifteen. Danny found the first cut of rough just under two hundred yards from the tee.

The game was on.
